GOUVERNEUR- Karen L. (Kingsley) Barr, age 84, of Gouverneur, NY passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Summit Village in Watertown, NY.

Karen was born on February 24, 1941 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Wesley Zyra and Agnes Kingsley. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1958. She married Stanley Eugene Barr in June of 1960 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church.

Karen started out working as a dental clerk for Dr. McQueen, then she became a housewife of a fulltime farmer, helping out on the farm and raising their five children. She also worked at the Hermon Library and was the Art teacher at Richville Christian Academy. She had also work home health care for a while. Karen was very talented in art. Her paintings were very well known. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many shawls for people. Church was also very important to her.

Surviving is a son, Jeff (Lori) Barr of Hailesboro; two daughters, Cyndi (Jeffrey) Stone of Gouverneur and Kathy Walrath and her companion Daniel Durham of Hermon; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Karen is predeceased by her husband, Stanley; her parents, Wesley and Agnes; two daughters, Bonnie Hayden and Shirley Grange; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David (Joan) Kingsley and Dick Kingsley; a sister, Kristine Turnbull; a granddaughter, Amber L. Mote; a great grandson, Odin Mote and nephews, Bill, David and Wesley Kingsley. She is also predeceased by her best friend of 50 years, Zelma Hayes.

There will be calling hours for Karen on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Scott Hayden officiating.
