EDWARDS – Madelyn Hansen, age 78, of Edwards, passed away on January 6, 2025 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. The family is planning a celebration of life in the summer of 2026 so friends and family from near and far can attend. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Madelyn was born on July 17, 1947 in Scranton, PA to the late Samuel and Anne (Andrejack) Pugliano.
She married Willard P. Hansen, Jr. on December 29, 1965 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Willard passed away on August 30, 2011.
After 20 years of working for car dealerships in San Diego and Gouverneur, Madelyn changed her career to be a teacher's assistant for children with special needs. She worked for the Gouverneur Central School District and St. Lawrence Lewis BOCES based at West Side and Fowler Elementary Schools in Gouverneur and Edwards Knox Central School
Madelyn was an accomplished crafter, from painting to woodworking and ceramics. She enjoyed creating annual holiday gifts for her friends, family and students each year. She also enjoyed gardening and yardwork at her property in Edwards.
Madelyn is survived by her son, Wil Hansen, two sisters, Lucille Scazafabo and Christine Hubbs, and her chosen family: Derrick and Kimberlee Martin and their children, Alexia, Kaisyn, Breiah, and Riekyn and Shelly Pike and her children, Scott and John Joseph. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
