NEWTON FALLS- Patricia E. Woods, age 92, of Newton Falls, NY, passed away in her home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. There will be calling hours for Patricia on Friday, January 9, from Noon to 4:00 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. Her funeral mass will be on Saturday, January 10, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Hubert's Church in Star Lake. A spring burial will take place at Cranberry Lake Cemetery with details to follow at a later date. Patricia was born on March 23, 1933, in Benson Mines, NY, to the late Elmer and Celima (LaRose) Martin. She started her education in a one room school house and then went to school in Newton Falls, before graduating from high school in Oswegatchie. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Watertown, NY, in 1953, fulfilling her desire to become a Registered Nurse.



Patricia married Wayne W. Woods on September 28, 1957, at St. Hubert's Church in Star Lake, NY. Wayne passed away on February 2, 2007. Patricia worked as a Registered Nurse for Mercy Hospital and for Clifton-Fine Hospital, and occasionally was a substitute nurse at Clifton-Fine Central School, in between staying home to raise her ten children. She was a member of St. Hubert's Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing the piano, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and dice games, and going on her daily walks along the river to enjoy nature's beauty. Patricia was well known for never forgetting anyone's birthday or anniversary, sending thousands of cards and letters to loved ones and friends over the course of her lifetime. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the years, taking a ship across the Atlantic Ocean to London and a trip to France as a young nurse, along with many winters spent in Florida and California during retirement, and visits to Hawaii and even Rome, Italy for Holy Week. Some of her greatest joys were seeing Pope John Paul II in New York City and Pope Benedict in Rome.



Surviving are her ten children and their spouses, Patti and Steve Smith, Joanne McCormick, Michael Woods, Martin and Ginger Woods, Jeffrey Woods, William and Georgiana Woods, Susan and William Layton, Lisa Foy and Steve Rocheville, Anthony and Courtney Woods, Kelly Woods and Robert Emery. Also surviving are a sister, Rose Maxwell, a sister-in-law, Dolores Beaulieu, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews many of whom were like her own children. Through marriages, Patricia is survived by an additional eleven grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.



Patricia is predeceased by her husband Wayne Woods, her parents, a grandson, Lucas McCormick, a son-in-law, Paul McCormick, a son-in-law, Marty Perry, seven brothers - Richard, Theodore, Felix, Elmer Jr., William, Donald and John Martin, and four sisters - Ora Griffin, Elizabeth Crossman, Jean Rhoades and Margaret Ripley.
