STAR LAKE - Brendon John Pomerville passed away on December 15, 2025, after a lifelong battle with congenital kidney disease. Born on January 9, 1973, he endured more than thirty years of dialysis and hundreds of medical procedures with remarkable strength, resilience, and grit. When asked why he had been given such a difficult path, he would simply say, "Why not me? I'm strong and can endure better than most."
Brendon spent most of his years in Star Lake, NY, growing up wild and free in the Adirondack Mountains. Alongside his close-knit group of friends, known around the neighborhood as the "Boys in Black," clad in black leather jackets and carrying a bit of legend, he could often be found building elaborate camps deep in the forest or lending a hand to those in need.
Brendon graduated from Clifton-Fine Central and proudly completed the Culinary Arts Program through BOCES. Cooking became both a passion and a source of purpose, allowing him to work as a chef and giving him something to aspire to despite the constraints of chronic illness. His creativity extended far beyond the kitchen; his imagination was limitless. He wrote stories of far-off lands and illustrated the worlds he created, filling pages with history, characters, and mythologies of places only he could see.
A student of karate and admirer of martial arts, Brendon had a deep appreciation for swords, knives, and weaponry. His personal style reflected that fascination: outlandish and unforgettable, as if pulled from the pages of history. He wore top hats, leather pants, tall boots, pocket watches, vests, trench coats, ornamental knives, and leather cuffs with absolute confidence. Brendon was unapologetically himself.
He tussled endlessly with his brother, Rob, and relentlessly beat up on his kid sister, Heather, yet stood fiercely protective against anyone who posed a threat to them. He didn't have much in this world, but he would sacrifice if it meant creating elaborate surprises for the people he loved; he was endlessly proud of their achievements.
Brendon was beloved by many of his teachers who made special accommodations for his illness, recognizing both his challenges and extraordinary spirit. He was also deeply cherished by the extended family and community, being adopted into many other homes.
He is survived by his siblings, Robert (Angela) Campbell, of Spring Hill, Florida; Heather (Charisse) Campbell, of Ithaca, New York; Hollie Cooper of Bailey, Colorado; and Michal (Jon) Jarboe of Junction City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Marsha and Bruce Campbell, and father, Michael Cooper.
Brendon's life was not an easy one, but it was rich with imagination, loyalty, humor, and quiet courage. He endured more than most, loved fiercely, and left an indelible mark on everyone who truly knew him.
