RICHVILLE – Laurie A. Kaplan, age 78, of Richville, passed away on November 27, 2025 at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation in Massena.

There will be a funeral held at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Laurie was born on May 16, 1947 in Newburgh, NY to the late Gerard and Esther (Brandow) Maier. She graduated from Marlboro Central School in 1965, attended SUNY Geneseo and earned her BA from Hartwick College in 1969. She then earned her Master's degree from Spalding College in Louisville, KY.

Laurie worked as a Library Media Specialist for Rombout Middle School in Beacon, NY, Franklin Central School, Downsville Central School, and retired from Ellenville Central School. While at Ellenville, she met and married Stanley Kaplan. They enjoyed a busy and happy life as part of the Ellenville community. Stanley passed away in 2002. She was a member of the North Country Christian Fellowship.

Laurie is survived by her siblings, Mary Bleau, Kathryn and Kurt Robb, and Steve and Edre Maier, her close friends, and her nieces and nephews.
