BLACK LAKE- Thomas W. Fishel, age 74, of Hammond, NY passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Tom was born on May 9, 1951 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Edward S. and Lois M. (Emrich) Fishel. He graduated from Morristown Central School in 1969 and then went on to attend Canton ATC. On June 3, 1972 he married Marlene J. Heimerman at the St. James Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert McCarthy officiating.
Tom and his wife Marlene owned and operated the Edwardsville Grocery from 1972, until they sold the store in 2005. He then worked for the new owners until 2009 when he went to work for Price Chopper as a meat cutter until his retirement in 2021. In his free time, Tom enjoyed fall bass fishing, ice fishing, duck hunting, watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a past president of the Black Lake Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Black Lake Fish and Game Club and a member of the St. Lawrence County Fish Advisory Board. Tom was also a lifetime Honorary Member of The Pine Hill Ponds Hunting Club.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Marlene; their children, Christopher Fishel of Albany, NY and Alison (Russell) Lawrence of Canton, NY; four grandchildren, Elisha, Oliver and Lilliah Fishel and Colten Lawrence; a sister, Nancy Russell; two brothers, Dale (Penny) and Randy Fishel and several nieces and nephews.
Tom is predeceased by his parents; a sister, Judy Fishel; a brother-in-law, James Russell and a sister-in-law, Linda Fishel.
