OSWEGATCHIE – John "Jack" M. Briggs, Jr., age 81, passed away on November 14, 2025 at Elderwood Uihlein at Lake Placid.

Jack was born on June 25, 1944 in Gouverneur to the late John M. Briggs, Sr. and Elsie (Hance) Briggs. He attended the Newton Falls and Star Lake Schools.

He married June E. Towne on December 17, 1966 at the Russell Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Maquinn. The couple has lived in Oswegatchie their whole married life.

Jack loved the outdoors, especially camping at Cranberry Lake and making maple syrup. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Fowler Baptist Church. Jack was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he had served as Patron and District Lecturer. He joined the Masonic Lodge #607 in Fine in 1990 and served as Master in 2000. Upon that lodge's closing, he joined the Masonic Lodge #447 in Edwards where he had served as the Senior Master of Ceremonies.

His survivors include his wife, June; two daughters, Tammy M. Briggs and Kathy E. (Jeff) Hedrick, both of Oswegatchie; and is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jack is predeceased by a son, Bryan S. Briggs who died at birth; a brother and a sister-in-law, James M. and Susan Briggs.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the South Russell Cemetery. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
