TROUT LAKE – Elizabeth Ashley, age 89, of Trout Lake, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edwards on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Elizabeth was born on March 21, 1936 in Brier Hill, NY to the late Cuthbert and Iva (Sweetland) Ramsey. She attended the one-room schoolhouse in Brier Hill until high school and graduated from Morristown Central School in 1954. She then graduated from the Ogdensburg Business School in 1955.

She married Richard "Dick" Ashley on June 12, 1956 at the Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. Mr. Ashley passed away on September 19, 2024. Elizabeth worked for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff Department in the Civil Division from September 1970 until her retirement as the Head of the Division - Senior Account Clerk in January 1997.

Elizabeth loved life on Trout Lake and her community. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her flower gardens, and her dogs over the years. She loved nature and living where nature was all around her. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Debra E. and William French of Edwards, and Brenda L. and Brian Merrill of Colton, grandchildren, Shawna, Jason, Michael, Jeffrey, and Christopher, great-grandchildren, Carter Ashley, Noah Allen, Brinkley Elizabeth, Quinley Anne, Lily Louise, Liam Alexander, and Olivia Opal, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Ashley, and her son, Gregory R. Ashley.
