HERMON – Daniel G. McBroom, age 77, of Hermon, NY passed away on August 29, 2025 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

There will be visitation held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with John LaPlatney officiating. After the service there will be a luncheon held at the Hermon Fire Hall. Burial in Woodland Cemetery will be at a later date. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Daniel was born in Gouverneur, NY to the late Glenn D. and Sarah A. (Austin) McBroom on December 24, 1947. He went to school at Clifton-Fine Central School and graduated in 1968. He went on to earn a certificate of Master Automotive Technician from ATI. Daniel worked as a laborer for the Newton Falls Paper Mill for 32 years. He also worked for the St. Lawrence County Highway Department for 1 year.

Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Florida Sheriffs Association for several years, a life member of the NRA, the NYS Rifle and Pistil Association, the North American Hunting Club, Wildlife Forever, the Adirondack Conservation Council, the NYS Conservation Council, and Bass Masters.

Daniel's marriage to Patricia A. O'Shea in 1968 ended in divorce after 23 years.

Daniel is survived by his long-time companion, Barbara N. Rickett, his two sons, Daniel G. McBroom II and his wife, Tammy, and James R. (McBroom) Cook, step-sons, David Wentzel and his wife, Tammy, Richard Wentzel and his girlfriend, Tanya Scott, Steven Wentzel and his wife, Lori, and Robert Wentzel and his wife, Jessie, four brothers, Paul J. and wife Gail, Alvin S. and wife Joanie, LeRoy L. and wife Trudy, Benjamin T. and wife Robin, and a sister, Melinda E. and her husband, Harry Hubbard. He is also survived by grandchildren, Anthoney, Krista (Justin), Samantha, Courtney B. (Alex), Christopher (Sarah), Nicholas (Ryan), Courtney R. (Cameron, Breanna, Danielle, Bryce (Savannah), Kasey, Destinee, David and Kodi (fiancé Kristi), Tianna (Dakota), and Devon (Ava) great-grandchildren, Cohen, Davis, Bryant, Elijah, Charlotte, Evelyn, Cooper, Olivia Grace, Olivia Rose, and Micah, and has one more on the way, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Sarah (Austin) McBroom, and two brothers, Afred G. and Henry W. McBroom.
