EDWARDS – Harold "Chico" J. Whitmarsh, Jr, age 61, of Edwards, passed away unexpectedly while at work on July 15, 2025.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Edwards. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Chico was born on January 7, 1964 in Gouverneur to the late Harold "Zip" J. Whitmarsh, Sr. and Shirley B. (Eggleson) Whitmarsh. He graduated from Edwards Central School in 1983.

Chico married Jenelle M. Hale on August 21, 2010. He had worked as a construction Supervisor for Continental Construction in Gouverneur for the last 13 years. He previously worked for various construction companies including his own company in North Carolina. Chico was a very successful and hard worker who loved building things. He created beautiful custom items for his family and friends. Chico built so much in his life, not just with his hands, but with his heart. He loved his family, riding in his buggy, and cooking so nobody went away hungry. Chico made a place for everyone at his table, Bud Light in hand- always ready to share a story, a laugh, or whatever he had, and somehow, you always left feeling better just for being near him.

Chico is survived by his wife, Jenelle Whitmarsh and her family, his children, Adriana Sheppard (Brody), Martina Whitmarsh (Jesse Spellicy), Abbie Hale (Dakota Sharp), Justin Whitmarsh, his step-daughter, Jeneca LaPlant (Daniel Jolley), and siblings, S. Michael Whitmarsh (Debbie), Melissa Averill, and Melinda Serrano. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ariya, Bennett, Charlotte, Reagan, Kemper, Myles, and Reya, and his nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Maryann Tyler, and a nephew, Omar Serrano.
