CARTHAGE- George E. Wells, age 82, of Carthage and formerly of Gouverneur, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse.

George was born on December 26, 1942 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Martin and Elizabeth (Dashnaw) Wells. He attended Gouverneur Central School. On January 25,1969 he married Alice Durham at the Church of the Nazarene in Gouverneur with Rev. Floyd Shaw officiating. Alice passed away on May 15, 2010.

George loved nature and loved going for walks along the water.

Surviving is three daughters, Jean Travis, Arlene Markham and Eileene Wells; a son, William Wells; a brother, Carmen Wells; two sisters, Luella Martin and Linda Day and seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with George's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, July 13th at 1:30 p.m. at the Carthage High Rise Community Room at 222 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
