I have thought, written and re-written this message to the family quite a few times. I loved your Mom. Her sweet smile, her laugh twinkled in the air like a windchime. I always stopped to see her when I was home. She was home to me, a part of my life that I would never give up, would re-live it in a heartbeat. She would always greet me with that “Barbie Martin” her voice so sweet and full of laughter. We had great visits remembering times gone by and those will always be close to my heart. I was a lucky one to have enjoyed the hot fudge sauce on vanilla ice cream, to swim in the pool, to have helped with Sunday dinners and to have had the “rolled-meat” (Braciole?) your Mom made. Yes, my heart aches for you, but it also soars and is light because I knew your Mom, loved your Mom, laughed with your Mom, sat on the porch and rocked with your Mom and best of all felt loved by your Mom. Thanks for sharing her. I love you all.

Its hard to put into words the admiration and respect I have for Nancy. Her leadership on the Gouverneur Central School Board made such a difference in the lives of so many students and adults. It was a privilege and honor to be able to work with her and help carry out the vision she had to give every student the best possible start in life. Later after I retired we would meet for lunch with her good friend Marge and Ann Adams to celebrate our birthdays. I was so lucky to have Nancy as part of my life. A wonderful role model and a truly special person and friend. My thoughts and prayers are with Dan and her loving family.

My condolences to the family during this difficult time. I first met Nancy when she was on the Gouverneur school board and I was a young radio reporter for WIGS. I remember her as an outstanding public servant and always quick to help whenever I had a question. I will always remember her smile and professionalism...May she Rest in Peace.
