Obituary of Harold S. Simmons

GOUVERNEUR- Harold S. Simmons, age 87, of Gouverneur, NY passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Gouverneur Hospital. There will be calling hours for Harold on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with his funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Harold was born on May 10, 1937 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Amasa and Florence (Smith) Simmons. He attended school in Richville and graduated from Gouverneur High School (twice, once when he was 16 and again when he was 17). He married Theresa Clintsman on July 4, 1959 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edwards. Harold worked for Borden's Milk Plant, Kinney Drugs Warehouse, worked construction and then for Aiellos Cheese Plant, Lucille Farms and Losurdo Cheese Plants in Heuvelton. In his free time, Harold enjoyed woodworking, traveling to Myrtle Beach and was known for being a master tinkerer. Surviving is his wife, Theresa; three children, Harold (Amy) Simmons, Melody (Allen) Tupper and John Simmons; two brothers, Harley (Brenda) Simmons and Jack Simmons; two sisters, Harriett Wells and JoAnne Stowell; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Adam Simmons, Maggie Schmerge, Curtis, Nicholas and Alex D'Agostino, Zeb Tupper and Johnessa Simmons; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Harold is predeceased by his parents and a granddaughter, Ashlee D'Agostino.
