GOUVERNEUR – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Kennedy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated nurse, who peacefully passed away surrounded by family on April 9th, 2025 at the age of 67.

Sue was born on May 27th, 1957 in Gouverneur to the late Harold and Gertrude (Zeber) Wood. She was one of 7 siblings; Eva Wood, the late Christine Wood, Michael and Michelle Wood, Barbara Wood, Rosemary and David Denesha, and Steven Wood. Sue graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1975 and from Canton College with a Registered Nursing Degree. She married Jon Kennedy on July 26th, 1975.

She devoted her life to caring for others, not only as a compassionate nurse but also as a pillar of love and support for her family. Her career as a nurse spanned 30 years, during which she touched countless lives with her kindness, skill, and unwavering commitment to patient care.

She was a loving wife to Jon for 49 years, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and wonderful memories. As a mother, she raised 2 children, Jeneca (Chris) Kenny and Joshua Kennedy. She cherished being a grandmother to Nolan, Maxwell, Shayne, Lauren, Peyton, and Liam. Her love for them knew no boundary.

Sue's legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Gouverneur Community Center after the funeral service.
