STAR LAKE – Lawrence Cooper, age 86, formerly of Star Lake, passed away on February 19, 2018 in Batavia NY. Calling hours will be held at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake on Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with his service following at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Hubert's Cemetery with military honors. Lawrence was born on July 8, 1931 in Ogdensburg to the late Harry E. and Anna M. (Walker) Cooper. He served in the United States Army from September 1, 1948 until his honorable discharge on June 21, 1952. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He worked for the J&L Steel Company in Benson Mines for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Marvin Eno American Legion Post 1532 and a former member of the Star Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed driving school bus for several years after retiring from J&L Steel; and was an all-around handy man both at home and in the community. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and fur trapping. He loved socializing with family and friends. Lawrence married Rosanne Trombley on October 17, 1950. She passed away on November 27, 2002. His survivors include three daughters, Brenda Hamling and her husband, John, Judy Cooper, Susan Smith and her husband, Peter; a son, Keith Cooper and his wife, Pam; a sister, Mary Martin; and a brother, Earl Cooper, and his wife Sharry. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Lawrence is predeceased by two sons, Lawrence Earl Cooper, Jr and Michael Paul Cooper; a sister, Theresa Smith; and three brothers, Darrell, Harry and Frederick Cooper.
