OSWEGATCHIE – Barbara J. Smith, age 77, of Oswegatchie, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2016 while under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her family. Calling hours will be held at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake on Friday, December 23, 2016 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. Her funeral mass will be on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Star Lake. Private burial in St. Michael's Cemetery in Fine, NY will be in the spring. Barbara was born on August 9, 1939 on Pine Street in Potsdam to the late Victor J. and Muriel J. (Kirnan) Pomerville. She was a 1957 regents graduate of Clifton-Fine Central School. Barb was married Frank M. Smith on February 28, 1976. She worked at Gearsbeck's Store for 19 years as well as many local restaurants. She was happy when surrounded by family and friends, and even happier when cooking for them. Barb loved reading, singing, and history. She was a dear, great friend, excellent mother and loving wife. Barb was the first to show up at a person's door with love and the comfort of good food whenever someone in the community was going through hard times. Saying goodbye to Barbara will not be easy, but we have assurance knowing she is at peace in the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Frank M. Smith; her children, Edward Keith Hall of Poughkeepsie, Lori Campbell and her husband, David of Edwards, Rebeca Peabody and her husband, Richard of Oswegatchie, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Jennifer of Peru, NY, and step daughter, Elizabeth Smith Trimble of Grafton, Mass; her siblings, Janet Feerick and husband Dennis of Star Lake, Victor Pomerville and his wife Lina of Morrisonville, and Marsha Campbell of Star Lake. She is also survived by her best friend, Sylvia Davey of Oswegatchie; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Victor and Muriel Pomerville; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Marie Campbell Pike and a brother-in-law, Bruce Campbell.
