SUCKER LAKE RD.- Frederick J. Cooper, Sr., age 81, of Sucker Lake Rd. in Oswegatchie, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Calling hours for Fred will be on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. His funeral service will be on Friday, January 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Fine. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Frederick was born on August 15, 1934 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late Harry E. and Anna M. (Walker) Cooper. He married Lena E. Terry on November 13, 1952 at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Star Lake. Lena passed away on January 7, 2004. Fred went to work for J & L Steel for twenty-one years; Rosco for four years and then he worked as a diesel mechanic at the Newton Falls Paper Mill for several years until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on vehicles, hunting and he and his wife enjoyed square dancing for many years and were members of the skirts-n-flirts. Surviving are three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Rodney and Shirley, Timothy and Ann and Harry Cooper; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Ann and George Clement, Lorna and Gerald Terry and Bonnie Jackson and her fiancé, Steve Thesier; two brothers, Lawrence and Earl; a sister, Mary Martin; twelve grandchildren, three step grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Frederick is predeceased by his wife, Lena; a son, Frederick J. Cooper, Jr.; two brothers, Darrell and Harry; and a sister, Theresa Smith. Donations may be made in Frederick's memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy. 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
