Obituary of Gloria Ann Stoffel

ANTWERP – Gloria Ann Stoffel, age 79, of Antwerp and formerly of Edwards, passed away on July 30, 2015 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 2 – 4 p.m. Her funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Philadelphia. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Fine. Gloria was born on October 18, 1935 in Norwich, NY to the late Lawrence and Frances (Constance) Burnham. She grew up in Mount Upton, NY and graduated from Alfred State in 1955. Gloria was a lab technician with Buffalo Milk Producers, Inc. in Buffalo until her marriage. She married John L. Stoffel on July 1, 1961 at the Sacred heart Church in Sidney, NY with the Rev. Pilson officiating. John passed away December 5, 2009 at home in Antwerp. Gloria was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Edwards for many years before joining St. Joseph's in Philadelphia. She was on the Board of Directors of the Edwards Housing Authority for 20 years and was a substitute librarian in Edwards for many years. She enjoyed reading, making quilts and doing crossword puzzles. Gloria had an extensive candlestick collection and was an avid sports fan, especially college basketball. Surviving are her daughter, Carrie Stoffel of Massena; three sons and their wives, Michael and Judy of Antwerp, Randy and Tracey of Morristown, Thomas and Linda of Chaumont; four grandchildren; three brothers, Terry, Lance and Charles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
