Obituary of Donald M. Horton

GOUVERNEUR- Donald M. Horton, age 70, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Claxton – Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg. Calling hours for Donnie will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. His funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Beth Benham officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. Donnie was born on March 24, 1944 in Gouverneur to the late Millard F. and Lena (McDonald) Horton. He attended Gouverneur Central School. Donnie was a handy man and worked various jobs around the community. During the Gouverneur St. Lawrence County Fair he would work and go around selling newspapers. He was a member of the Gouverneur American Legion, DADS Post at the VFW and was a member of the Gouverneur Exempt Firemen. Donnie was most noted in the community for being the one to sell tickets or buttons for various organizational fundraisers. He was the person that the community could always count on for help. Donald is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Horton of Florida and Joel Horton of Dekalb Junction; two sisters, Shirley Horton of Ogdensburg and Shelva Horton of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews and close friends. He is predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Gordon, Frederick, Murray and Melvin; and two sisters, Joann Horton Newvine and Laura Mae Horton.
